Parochial Church Council (PCC)

The Parochial Church Council, or PCC as it is generally known, is an elected body which is responsible for ensuring that the spiritual, legal, financial, pastoral and missionary functions of the Church are carried out.

The PCC consists of the Vicar, the Churchwardens and Deanery Synod representatives who are all ex-officio members, and eight parishioners whose names have been on the Electoral Roll for a minimum of one year at the time of election.

The Vicar acts as Chairman, and a Treasurer and Secretary are appointed from within the Council once it has been formed. Elections take place at the Annual Meeting which is held in April, and to which all parishioners are invited. At this meeting the PCC reports on the year's work and parishioners have the opportunity to put forward ideas for the coming year or to voice their concerns on matters which they would like the PCC to address.

The PCC meets on average every six weeks, and the meetings take place in Church.

Local Ministry Group

This group helps to look at ways we can meet needs in our Parish.

What is Local Ministry for? To enable all church members to fulfil their God-given calling to build up the Church and seek God's kingdom. All Christian people and called to follow Christ, but individuals are called to exercise particular tasks or ministries so that the whole Church may be better focussed. Because Christians are members one of another, the exercise of ministerial gifts is best done collaboratively at every level. Local Ministry is one important expression of this in practice.

What is the relationship between the Local Ministry group and the PCC? The PCC remains the local church's executive and is the decision-making body in all matters of policy and finance. The Local Ministry Group services to implement the PCC's policy in respect of mission and ministry and to bring any relevant matters arising from its work to the PCC.

Who can become a member of the Local Ministry group? Any church member who feels called to exercise a particular ministry within the community of faith may become a member of the Local Ministry Group.

Pastoral Care Group

Pastoral Care is part of shared Ministry which works alongside and not as an alternative to the Vicar.

The Group is made up of two sections - one being the eyes and ears - contact people who report to the Collator the names of anyone in need.

The second group is made up of a hospital visitor and a bereavement visitor as well as home visitors who cover a range of duties, sending cards or small gifts as appropriate, visiting the sick, new residents, new mothers and babies etc..

This can only be done by information being passed on to the Group, to avoid anyone slipping through the net.

Fellowship Group

The Fellowship Group meets monthly at Veronica Simpson's, 8 Whitegates from 7:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m..

Interesting and varied discussion - thought provoking. We support our Church Missionary Partners, who are Eric and Sandra Read in the Congo, by prayer and whatever else support is required.
